Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988) VHS Box - Front By Ryan Clark: Flickr

The movies Sleepaway Camp 2 and 3 were filmed at Camp Younts at Waco, a youth Y camp at Lake Waco, GA in 1987. The camp in the second movie was the fictional Camp Rolling Hills, the third film it was the fictional Camp New Horizons. Camp New Horizons in the movie is built on the grounds of the old camp Rolling Hills.

Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers is a 1988 American black comedy slasher film and a sequel to the movie Sleepaway Camp. Written by Fritz Gordon and directed by Michael A. Simpson, it stars Pamela Springsteen as Angela, and Renée Estevez. The film takes place five years after the original film, and features transgender killer Angela targeting misbehaving teenagers at a summer camp. (info from Wikipedia

Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland  is a 1989 American black comedy slasher film and the second sequel to Sleepaway Camp (1983). Taking place one year after the events in the previous film, the film again follows the same transgender serial killer Angela Baker targeting teenagers at a summer camp. (Wikipedia)

The Younts Camp at Waco had been abandoned a few years before 1987 when the filming was done on the movies. According to an Interview with Bill Johnson who worked as the effects creator on the movies, the location was in the middle of nowhere and was beautiful. The crew cleaned  up part of the old camp to use for filming, including the pool. Which according to Bill was “nasty” since it had been abandoned for years even though the crew tried to clean it out. (info credit Sleep away camp website) To this day the pool remains overtaken by nature. A lot of the buildings and cabins were razed after the filming, yet some remain. It has been 32 years since the filming and it is amazing some things are still there.

This is Private Property and It would not be wise to trespass. Adam the Woo noted that he was told it is used for hunting and it is a dangerous place to wander around in.

Adam the Woo filmed an excellent Youtube video on the filming location. Check it out . He shot this in October 2013… It is a very detailed account of the exact spots where filming took place and the remaining structures. Some remaining features are the pool, the mess hall chimney ( not much here), some cabins, part of the dock structure, and the bathroom house.
